Less is more: crafting your perfect minimalist wardrobe
In our quest to simplify things, most of us are likely to be excited by the idea of a minimalist wardrobe, and at the same time find it very challenging. Thanks to the wrong ideas on minimalism that are mainstream on social media, the task became a puzzle that most never seem to crack: how do I cut down to the essentials without losing my individuality?
Here are the seven steps to build a wardrobe that works for you and still lets you express yourself.
1. Define your preferences
Identify core pieces
Versatility is the answer: choose items that can be mixed and matched with ease. Think of pieces like a well-cut white shirt or a pair of dark denim jeans that work in multiple contexts.
Color coordination: choose a simple color scheme with one or two bold colours only. This won’t just improve the overall look but makes it easier for you to coordinate outfits, while staying out of NPC territory.
Balance is key: as much as it is important to cover all the basics, only basic clothing can make your closet a boring place. A few statement pieces are required to elevate your wardrobe and add that spark to your presence.
2. Declutter strategically
Audit your closet
Time to purge: if you haven't worn a piece in two years, or if it no longer fits your body or lifestyle, it's time to let it go. This also means emotional purging from clothes that might hold sentimental value but no longer serve a purpose.
Categorize: separate clothes into essentials, maybes and departures. It’s a good way to see what you really like and wear.
Keep the best: leave in your closet only what you love and are comfortable in. And get rid of everything else: clothes and shoes that don’t fit, are outdated or just don’t make you feel good when you wear it.
3. Set guidelines
Create your own Fashion rules
